Lesson 1
Who am I? (¿Quién soy?)
Description of lesson: This lesson teaches students vocabulary related to personal identity
and greetings.
Goal: To teach students beginning conversational skills: common greetings, introductions,
feelings
Objective: Students will be able to: 1) say hello, say their names, ask others their names, ask
others how they feel, describe how they themselves feel; 2) identify emotions
Vocabulary: Hello (¡Hola!); My name is _____. (Me llamo _____.); What is your name?
(¿Cómo te llamas tú?); How are you? (¿Cómo estás?); I am _____. (Yo estoy _____.); very
well (muy bien); well (bien); not well (no estoy bien); Goodbye (Adiós)
Materials: Puppet supplies, including small paper lunch bag, googly eyes (i.e. plastic craft
supplies used to imitate eyes), crayons, yarn, colored paper, and glue; pictures or photographs
of faces pre-cut from magazines, including a very happy smiling face, a somewhat happy face,
and an unhappy face
Time: 30-40 minutes
Activities
Focus: Say, “Hello!” (¡Hola!) Have students respond, “Hello!” (¡Hola!) “Today we are going to
talk about who we are and how we are feeling.” (Hoy vamos a hablar de quién somos y cómo
nos sentimos.)
Teacher Input:
• “Hello! My name is _____. What is your name?” (¡Hola! Me llamo _____. ¿Cómo te
llamas tú?)
• Repeat the question with each student and prompt each student to respond “Hello. My
name is _____.” (¡Hola! Me llamo _____.)
• Show the three faces – very happy smiling face, somewhat happy face, and unhappy face
– stating the appropriate adjective for each (muy bien, bien, no estoy bien). Have students
repeat each adjective.
• Ask, “How are you? I am _____.” (¿Cómo estás? Yo estoy ________.).d

• Ask students: “Who is well?” (¿Quién se siente bien?) Have students raise their hands tov

• Continue to ask students questions about how they are feeling: “Who is very well? Who isr©
