Fish Math (Peces Matemáticos)
Description of lesson: This cross-curricular (Spanish and math) lesson teaches students to
graph and sort objects by color and reinforces vocabulary for colors and numbers.
Goal: To teach students to graph and sort objects by color and to reinforce vocabulary for
colors and numbers
Objective: Students will be able to graph and sort objects by color
Materials: Colored Goldish® crackers, Fish Sorting Mats (provided), Fish Graph worksheets
(provided), red, blue, green, orange, yellow, and purple construction paper. [Note: Teacher
or students must color in the Fish Sorting Mats and Fish Graphs either prior to, or during, the
lesson, or download color versions from the Whistlefritz® website at www.whistlefritz.com. The
ish boxes on the Fish Sorting Mats and Fish Graphs should be colored red, green, purple,
and orange. The Fish Sorting Mat should be colored as illustrated in the diagram below. The
rectangles containing the ish on the Fish Graph should be colored in the following order from
left to right: red, purple, green, orange.]

Activities
Focus and Review: “Let’s review our colors.” (Vamos a repasar los colores.) Show students
each piece of colored construction paper and ask them to identify the colors: red, blue, green,
orange, yellow, and purple..
