Lesson 3
Fritzi’s Presents (Regalos de Fritzi)



Description of lesson: This cross-curricular (Spanish and math) lesson teaches students 

numbers and the mathematical concept of one-to-one correspondence.


Goal: To teach students to identify numbers 1 through 10 and apply the mathematical concept 

of one-to-one correspondence


Objective: Students will be able to: 1) identify the numerals 1 through 10; 2) use one-to-one 

correspondence to solve problems by matching sets and comparing number quantities; 3) use 

one-to-one correspondence in counting up to 10 objects



Vocabulary: Numbers (los números), one (uno), two (dos), three (tres), four (cuatro), ive 
(cinco), six (seis), seven (siete), eight (ocho), nine (nueve), ten (diez)



Materials: Numbered Presents (provided), Number Cards (provided), Presents Game Board 

(4 variations provided), chips, bag to hold Numbered Presents. [Note: Numbered Presents and 
Number Cards will need to be cut out prior to the lesson. Numbered Presents must be colored .d

prior to the lesson in the following colors: yellow, red, blue, green, black, white, purple, orange, ev

Activities


Focus and Review: “Remember that Fritzi is having a birthday party. His friends are coming to 

the party and each is bringing Fritzi a present. What color are the presents?” (Recuerden que 

Fritzi tendrá una iesta de cumpleaños. Sus amigos vendrán a la iesta y cada uno le traerá un 

regalo. ¿De qué color son los regalos?) Have students identify the colors.


Teacher Input: “What do you notice on the presents?” (¿Qué observan sobre los regalos?) 

Numbers. (Números.) “How many presents does Fritzi have? Let’s count them.” (¿Cuántos 

regalos tiene Fritzi? Vamos a contarlos.) Count presents with students. Have students repeat 
numbers. “Now we are going to play a game with presents.” (Ahora vamos a jugar un juego 

con los regalos.)



Guided Practice:

• Take one of the four versions of the Presents Game Board and count the number of 
presents in each square with students.

• Provide each student with one of the four versions of the Presents Game Board.

• Place the Numbered Presents in the bag.

• Reach into the bag and pull out a Numbered Present. Ask students, “What number is on
the present?” e.g., four. (¿Qué número está sobre el regalo?) “Four (cuatro).”
