Independent Practice: To assess individual students’ knowledge, have students place

the correct number of balloons on each square and say the number. [Note: For very young

children, work together with them to complete their boards.] Depending on student ability, have
students either work independently to complete entire board and then review or review each

square as it is completed.

Closure: Randomly choose a square to count together, saying each number as it is counted.
Review the colors of the balloons.

Extension Activities: Have students use balloon stickers to create a birthday party picture.

Have them count the balloons as they place them on the picture. Review the colors chosen.
